Sustain Our Future Foundation (SOFF) is a national nonprofit organization that advances equitable community benefits by embedding justice-driven capital strategies within large-scale renewable energy and sustainability infrastructure projects.

Founded in 2023 by Yinka N. Bode-George, SOFF was created to help redefine how large-scale infrastructure projects create and distribute public value. SOFF’s team works with corporations, infrastructure developers, governments, and communities to build development models that strengthen accountability, support meaningful community participation, and ensure that the communities where projects are built share in their benefits.

For SOFF, community benefits begin with how a project is designed and developed. SOFF supports development practices that center people and planet protections along with economic opportunity. This includes thoughtful project planning and siting, environmental and public health considerations, local economic and workforce prosperity, meaningful community participation, and community-defined benefits.

Additionally, SOFF helps structure and implement community benefit funds that direct capital from large-scale infrastructure projects into locally defined priorities. SOFF serves as a trusted intermediary between project partners and communities, helping translate impact commitments into grantmaking strategies that are transparent, participatory, and responsive to local needs. SOFF’s grantmaking approach is grounded in the belief that communities should have meaningful influence over the resources intended to benefit them. Rather than prescribing solutions from the outside, SOFF facilitates community co-developed processes that enable local organizations and residents to identify priorities, direct resources, and lead implementation.

These investments can support a range of community priorities, including:

1. Strengthening and diversifying the sustainability workforce while promoting economic justice.

2. Reducing and eliminating excessive and unjust carbon emissions through root-cause solutions.

3. Reducing, eliminating, and preventing environmental pollution and the creation of sacrifice zones.

4. Increasing community-owned and community-driven models of sustainable infrastructure.

SOFF believes the transition to a sustainable economy must do more than reduce environmental harm. It should create healthier communities, expand economic opportunity, strengthen local power, and restore relationships between people and the natural world. SOFF envisions a health-oriented, equitable, and regenerative economy that bridges sustainable development, community wellness, and ecological preservation.

Through innovation, collaboration, and practical implementation, SOFF is helping build the institutional infrastructure to create self-determined community outcomes, and ensure sustainable development is driven by, and more tangibly benefitting to, communities.
