HBCU Fellowship
The Sustainable Justice HBCU Fellowship supports Historically Black College and University (HBCU) students in growing their sustainability professions. 2026 applications now open!
HBCU students gain professional experiences in sustainability and environmental justice, leadership development coaching, and connections with experts in the sustainability and environmental justice industry.
Fellows are placed in internships with community-based environmental justice organizations for 10 weeks between June and August.
To support their holistic development as scholars and sustainability professionals, fellows will receive weekly professional development seminars throughout the summer from Sustain Our Future Foundation’s team.
Fellows are compensated $5,000 internship stipends and awarded a $10,000 scholarship upon successfully completing the fellowship. Internship host organizations receive a grant of $10,000 in support of their grassroots advocacy, outreach, and programs.

Program Details
Duration: 10 weeks (June 1st, 2026 – August 7th, 2026)
Location: A remote format with optional opportunities to work on-site at select project locations. Fellows are expected to attend an in-person orientation in Washington D.C. at the beginning of the summer program.
Who Should Apply?
To be eligible for this fellowship program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Must attend one of the following colleges or universities: Morgan State University, Clark Atlanta University, Spelman College, Morehouse College, Howard University School of Law, Texas Southern University, North Carolina A&T State University, Tennessee State University, Delaware State University, and Xavier University of Louisiana.
Must be an undergraduate student (to the exception of students attending Howard University School of Law), and 18 years or older.
Must be available for full-time, 40 hours per week, work and program participation from June 1st through August 7th, 2026.
Must possess a strong desire to build professional skills and gain experience in one or more of the following areas: (1) Community building and engagement, (2) Community education and advocacy, and (3) Communications and writing.
Must demonstrate a passion for climate action through community driven, environmental justice, solutions.
